Privacy Policy
Last updated:2026-08-13
This Policy explains how Junyun Limited ("we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, shares and protects your personal information when you use the TranslateBuff browser extension, the TranslateBuff Windows desktop client and the translatebuff.com website, and what rights you have over that information. Please read this Policy before using the Service. Together with the Terms and Conditions, it forms the agreement between you and us.
1. Data Controller
- Data controller: Junyun Limited
- Privacy contact: support@translatebuff.com
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account information
When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and your unique account identifier (OpenID) from Google, which we use to create and identify your account. We do not receive your Google password, and we do not receive any other Google data beyond the scope you authorise.
2.2 Subscription and transaction information
When you purchase a subscription we record the order number, the plan purchased, the amount, the currency, the transaction time and the transaction status, in order to activate your entitlements, issue records and process refunds.
2.3 Payment information
Payments are processed by third-party payment channels (Stripe and PayPal). We never see or store your full card number, expiry date or security code. We receive only the transaction result and the identifiers needed for reconciliation.
2.4 Content you submit for translation
When you use translation features, we receive the source text you submit and forward it to a Third-Party Model Provider to produce the translation. That content is used solely to complete that translation. We do not retain it linked to your account identity and we do not use it for any purpose other than translation.
2.5 Device and log information
To keep the Service secure, diagnose faults and prevent abuse, our servers record access times, IP addresses, request paths, response statuses and error information. We also use your IP address to determine your country or region so that the correct pricing and legal requirements apply.
2.6 Referral source information
If you reach the website through a link carrying a campaign parameter, we store a referral identifier in your browser (cookie `aitrans_cid`, 30 days) to measure campaign performance. This identifier does not contain information that identifies you.
2.7 Uninstall survey (entirely voluntary)
If you choose to complete the survey after uninstalling the browser extension, we receive the reasons you select and any additional comment you write. The survey carries no account identifier, device identifier or IP address, and we cannot link a response to an individual user.
2.8 What we do not collect
For the avoidance of doubt: we do not collect your phone number; the website carries no third-party advertising, analytics or behavioural tracking SDK; and we do not build advertising profiles from your browsing behaviour.
3. How We Use This Information
We process your personal information only for the following purposes:
We do not use your personal information for purposes beyond those listed above. Where a new purpose becomes necessary, we will seek your consent separately.
- to create, identify and maintain your account and keep you signed in;
- to provide translation features, including forwarding source text to Third-Party Model Providers;
- to activate, renew, change and terminate subscriptions, and to process payments, reconciliation and refunds;
- to display the interface in the language you select;
- to keep the Service secure and to detect and prevent abuse, fraud and automated attacks;
- to diagnose faults and improve the stability of the product;
- to measure the performance of marketing campaigns;
- to comply with legal obligations, and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
4. Legal Bases for Processing
For users to whom the GDPR or the UK GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract: creating and identifying your account, providing translation features, and handling subscriptions and payments.
- Legitimate interests: securing the Service, preventing abuse and fraud, diagnosing faults, and measuring campaign performance. We have assessed the impact of this processing on your rights and limited it to what is necessary for those purposes.
- Consent: completing the uninstall survey, and any non-essential cookies we may introduce. You may withdraw consent at any time; withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out beforehand.
- Legal obligation: retaining transaction records and responding to lawful requests from authorities.
5. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not "share" it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We disclose information to third parties only as follows:
Whether a Third-Party Model Provider uses the content you submit for model training is governed by that provider's own policy. We give preference to providers that state they do not use customer data for training, but we cannot guarantee this.
- Third-Party Model Providers: to produce translations, we forward the source text you submit to the model providers we have selected. They process that data on our instructions and we remain responsible to you for the outcome.
- Payment providers: Stripe, PayPal and our checkout service provider, for charging, refunds and reconciliation. In respect of their own payment processing these parties act as independent controllers under their own privacy policies.
- Cloud and infrastructure providers: technical service providers necessary to host the Service, store data and send email, acting only on our instructions.
- Legal requirements: in response to a lawful request from a competent government authority or court, or where necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
- Business changes: in a merger, acquisition or transfer of assets, your information may transfer as part of the transferred assets. We will notify you before any such transfer and require the recipient to continue protecting your information in line with this Policy.
6. Retention Periods
- Content you submit for translation: processed only for as long as needed to complete that translation and not retained long-term.
- Referral cookie: 30 days.
- Uninstall survey responses: retained in anonymous form for product improvement statistics.
7. Cookies and Similar Technologies
7.1 The cookies we use
The website uses only the following three cookies. We use no advertising cookies and no third-party analytics cookies.
7.2 Your choices
You can refuse or delete cookies through your browser settings. Refusing strictly necessary cookies will prevent you from signing in or from having your language preference saved.
- Sign-in cookie: stores your login credential for 30 days. Strictly necessary; if blocked, you cannot stay signed in.
- Language preference cookie: records the interface language you select. Strictly necessary.
- Referral cookie (`aitrans_cid`, 30 days): measures campaign performance. This one is not strictly necessary.
8. Storage and International Transfers
8.2 International transfers: to provide the Service, your personal information may be processed outside your own country or region, including by Third-Party Model Providers and payment providers located in other jurisdictions.
8.3 Safeguards: for transfers from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on an adequacy decision, Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or another safeguard recognised by applicable law.
9. Your Rights
To the extent applicable law provides, you have the following rights over your personal information:
How to exercise them: email support@translatebuff.com. To protect your account we may need to verify your identity first. We will respond within one month of receiving your request. Where a request is complex or where we receive a large number of requests, we may extend this by up to two further months and will tell you the reason within the first month. There is no charge for exercising these rights, except for requests that are manifestly unfounded or excessive.
- Information and access: to know what information we process about you and to obtain a copy.
- Rectification: to have inaccurate or incomplete information corrected.
- Erasure: to have your personal information deleted where the conditions are met.
- Restriction: to have processing suspended in certain circumstances.
- Objection: to object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Portability: to receive the information you provided to us in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format, or to have it transmitted to another controller.
- Withdrawal of consent: to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
- Non-discrimination: exercising these rights will not result in a lower quality of service or a higher price.
- Complaint to a regulator: to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority in your jurisdiction.
10. Account and Data Deletion
10.1 The website does not yet offer self-service account closure. To close your account and delete your personal information, email support@translatebuff.com; we will verify your identity and process the request within the timeframe in Clause 9.
10.2 After your account is closed you will no longer be able to use features that require an account, and any unused subscription entitlement is not refunded (except where you have a statutory refund right). Transaction records we are legally required to keep will be retained until that obligation expires.
11. Security
We apply technical and organisational measures that meet industry standards, including encryption in transit, access controls and the principle of least privilege.
No internet-based service can be absolutely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of information in transit or at rest. Please keep your Google account secure and avoid staying signed in on devices belonging to others.
12. Automated Decision-Making and Profiling
We do not make decisions producing legal effects or similarly significant effects concerning you based solely on automated processing without human involvement. We do not profile you for advertising purposes.
13. Children
The Service is offered to adults and is not directed at children under 13.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given us personal information without your consent, please contact support@translatebuff.com and we will delete it as soon as we have verified the position.
In the European Economic Area, the minimum age for consent-based processing of a child's personal information is as set by your member state (generally between 13 and 16).
14. Data Breaches
If a security incident leads to the disclosure, alteration or loss of your personal information, we will take remedial action as required by law and report to the relevant supervisory authority within the period applicable law prescribes. Where the incident is likely to result in a high risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify you promptly.
15. Extension and Client Permissions
15.1 Browser extension: to translate web pages, the extension needs to read and modify the content of the page you are viewing. It reads only the text needed to produce the translation. It does not collect usernames, passwords or card numbers from the page, and it does not record your full browsing history.
15.2 Windows desktop client: to translate in-game text, the client needs to read text displayed on screen. That content is used solely to produce the translation and is not retained long-term.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. The updated version will be published on this page with a revised "last updated" date.
For material changes we will give you at least thirty (30) days' notice before they take effect, by website notice, in-product notice or email to the address associated with your account. Where a change concerns processing that requires your consent, we will seek that consent separately.
17. Language
This Policy may be translated into other languages for your convenience. In the event of any ambiguity or conflict between language versions, the English version prevails.
